Transparency and Legal Framework
Everything you need to know about how Omnibites operates, what tools it uses, and what each party's responsibilities are.
What is Omnibites?
Omnibites is an independent, non-profit community platform dedicated to preserving and sharing retro video game soundbites. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or associated with any video game company, content distributor, or streaming platform.
The project started as a personal initiative with the goal of creating a space where the retro community can find, listen to, and share the sonic moments that defined a generation.
Funding model
Omnibites operates exclusively on voluntary donations from the community. There is no other revenue model.
No ads. Omnibites does not display any kind of ads, does not sell ad space, and does not receive payments from advertisers or sponsors.
No subscriptions. All platform features are free and accessible to any registered user.
Donations only. Anyone who wants to support the project can do so voluntarily through PayPal. No functionality is locked behind a payment.
Audio sources and Archive.org
Omnibites' search tool connects to Archive.org, an internationally recognized non-profit digital library that preserves freely and publicly accessible material. Omnibites does not download, store, or redistribute these files on its own servers.
When a user plays or downloads audio from the Explore section, the file comes directly from Archive.org's servers. Omnibites acts as a search tool that provides access to content already publicly available on the internet.
To display information about each game (name, platform, and cover art), Omnibites queries a public video game database. This information is used purely for descriptive purposes, to help you identify the correct game.
Omnibites' tools do not interact with official video game company servers, do not extract or copy protected audio from commercial platforms, and do not perform any kind of scraping on proprietary content.
User responsibility for uploaded content
Omnibites allows registered users to upload their own soundbites. By creating an account, the user agrees that they are solely responsible for the content they publish.
All audio uploaded by an identified user is under their exclusive legal responsibility. Omnibites does not verify or audit the origin of files uploaded by the community.
By publishing a soundbite, the user implicitly declares that they have the necessary rights to share that content, or that the content is freely distributable.
Omnibites reserves the right to remove any content reported as a copyright violation, without prior notice and without any liability on the platform's part.
What Omnibites does not do
Omnibites does not extract, download, or steal audio from official platforms such as the Nintendo eShop, PlayStation Store, Steam, or other digital stores.
Omnibites does not impersonate an official platform or represent any video game company.
Omnibites does not store audio files on its own servers. All referenced content points to public external sources.
Omnibites does not monetize content uploaded by the community or by third parties.
